There's a gadget for almost everything now, including our pets. Automatic feeders, grooming tools, water fountains, interactive toys, trackers and electronic accessories have all found their way into modern pet homes.

But good pet tech shouldn't exist just because it can. It should solve a real problem.

Take feeding. An automatic feeder can help create more consistent meal times and portions, particularly in busy or multi-pet households. Even simpler devices can make a difference. A comfortable nail grinder may make routine grooming easier. A properly designed water dispenser can help keep fresh water readily available. A well-built interactive toy can create another opportunity for movement and play.

Before adding another device to your pet household, ask three questions:

Does it solve a real problem? Is it safe and easy to clean? Will I actually use it regularly?
